What is biodegradable glitter? How is it different from standard glitter?

Biodegradable glitter is, quite simply, glitter that is biodegradable: ours is made from sustainably sourced plants, specifically eucalyptus. Standard, conventional glitter is made from plastic that ends up in our oceans and other eco systems, but our gorgeous Bioglitter is marine and waste water biodegradable and OK Compost Home Certified (but has an indefinite shelf life under normal storage conditions).

Is Bioglitter as good as plastic glitter?

It’s better. Bioglitter is just as sparkly and pretty as plastic glitter, but softer to the touch. Add that to the fact that it doesn’t have the environmental impact that comes with single use plastic glitter and you’ve got a gorgeous, sparkly product that is all round better!

What can Bioglitter be used for?

Bioglitter is suitable for use in:

  • Wax melts and candles
  • Bath bombs, bubble baths, shower gels, nail polish and other cosmetic products
  • Festival glitter, glitter tattoos and make up
  • Beard and hair glitter
  • Weddings, Christenings, Communions
  • Birthday parties and face painting
  • Jewellery making
  • Resin art
  • Craft projects

What is Bioglitter made from?

Our Bioglitter is made from a biodegradable cellulose film which itself is made from sustainably and ethically sourced trees, primarily eucalyptus.

Are your products cruelty free?

Yes! It’s really important to us that our gorgeous glitter is kind not just to our planet but to it’s inhabitants as well. So all our products are cruelty free and we will never stock anything that has been tested on animals.

Are your products suitable for vegans?

Yes! We are against animal cruelty so all our products are cruelty free and contain no animal products. Our Bioglitter is made from plants.

Is your glitter biodegradable?

Yes! Our bioglitter was independently tested by OWS Belgium to ISO14851/2 fresh water biodegradability and proven to biodegrade highly in the natural environment. So our glitters are biodegradable, plant based and 100% cruelty free. Guilt free sparkles!

Are your products cosmetic grade?

Yes. Our glitters are all cosmetic grade and as such suitable for use on skin, in bath and body products, as well as a multitude of other creative products. Like any natural based product they do behave slightly differently to plastic glitters (plastic glitters should not be used for cosmetic products or glitter tattoos). Because they are made from natural ingredients, with glitter tattoos you will sometimes see a small amount colour left behind on the skin, mainly with the blues. This is the case with all truly biodegradable glitters and it can easily be removed with soap and water.

Do you supply MSDSs for cosmetic assessments?

Yes. All the Data Sheets needed for your cosmetic assessments are available to download here.

How can I affix your glitter to skin for glitter tattoos?

You can use any cosmetic grade, water-based gel. We use aloe vera as it's natural and hypo allergenic. Unfortunately this isn't something we currently stock. Please note that using oil-based gels or fixatives will result in colours leaking.

Does your glitter contain phthalates or parabens?

No. Our glitters are free from phthalates, parabens and phosphonates.

Where does your glitter come from?

We are proud to be official stockists of Ronald Britton / Sigmund Lindner BioglitterTM. They are world leaders in their field and set the standard in authenticated eco-friendly glitters: BioglitterTM is the highest performing eco-friendly cosmetic glitter range on the market. This means that when you buy from us you are getting the good stuff, the very best biodegradable glitter out there.

Does your glitter have a shelf life?

Our glitter has an indefinite shelf life under normal conditions. We recommend storing in a sealed container away from bright lights and strong heat.
